If you’re a Marvel fan, you know the ever-expanding cinematic universe has a long way to go before it runs out of material. That’s because there are thousands of comic book issues featuring every superhero from Iron Man to Captain America to the X-Men. DC is starting to build their own universe as well with the recent release of Batman V. Superman and the upcoming Suicide Squad. But the thought of reading all the comic books that continue to inspire the movies is more than a little daunting.

The Walking Dead

There have been over 150 issues, collected into 26 volumes published of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, and it’s still going strong. Thanks to the AMC adaptation, the zombie apocalypse series is probably one of the most-recognizable non-super hero graphic novel series still being published today. The series has won two Eisner Awards for Best Continuing Series and has been praised for its portrayal of human relationships in the midst of a dystopian world.
