Sons In Real Life

Sons in real life (clockwise): Hells Angels, Mongols, Sons of Silence, Bandidos and Warlocks

Each season, Sons of Anarchy provides the audience with a look into SAMCRO and the members of the club. We witness the love, betrayal, and friendships between the sons. People may wonder: how does SAMCRO compare with other clubs? Here, we take a look at some of the most well-known current motorcycle clubs.

Hells Angels

The largest, most well known motorcycle club, Hells Angels, was founded in the San Bernardino area of California in 1948. Today, forty different countries are home to Hells Angels charters. The mother charter, often called Berdoo, is still going strong in the HAMC world. Members of the club must ride a minimum of 20,000 miles a year and meet the requirements of their individual charter.

Mongols

The Mongols MC have been proudly boasting their brotherhood for over 40 years. On top of the many US chapters, the Mongol Nation reaches eight other countries. The mother chapter was established in 1969 with fifteen original members in Montebello, California. Some of the biggest current chapters are located in California including the Dago Chapter of San Diego, the Los Angeles Chapter, and the San Gabriel Valley or SGV Chapter. Many of the clubs’ traditions started in San Diego such as the clubs’ motto “Respect Few, Fear None.”

Sons of Silence

Unlike many of the other popular motorcycle clubs, Sons of Silence was not founded in California. Instead, the first chapter began in Colorado in 1966. Several other American chapters have been formed in states such as Florida, Tennessee, and Wyoming. In 1998, the first non-American Sons of Silence chapter was established in Munich, Germany. An American Eagle over the letter “A” is found on their logo with the Latin motto “donec mors non separat”, meaning “until death separates us.

Bandidos

With chapters across 23 countries, the Bandidos is another of the most well-known motorcycle clubs. The Bandidos’ was founded in 1966 by Don Chambers in San Leon, Texas. The clubs’ motto is “We are the people our parents warned us about.” Bandidos Worldwide is considered an outlaw gang and faces a lot of opposition from the law.

 Warlocks

In 1967, the Warlocks got their start when a group of 13 marines decided to form a motorcycle club. Each member agreed to create a chapter in their hometown when they returned, but only one followed through. Grub, a brother of the Warlocks to this day, formed the mother chapter in Orlando, Florida.  The flaming eagle that makes up the Warlocks’ logo was drawn by one of the original 13 marines. Today, there are chapters across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

Sons Of Anarchy Season Five debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on August 27th.
