While the fall gaming schedule is always jam-packed, the upcoming launch of the PS4 and Xbox One means many great current-gen games will probably be lost in the shuffle. Most of these games can be found at bargain prices, and are sure to rank among the year’s absolute best.
God of War: Ascension
God of War: Ascension (PS3)
Mythological Greek warrior Kratos returns for a fourth outing, and if you haven’t had a chance to play any of the God of Wars, this game is as good a place to start as any. God of War has always struck a fine balance between single-player, gore-filled combat and larger-than-life boss battles, and Ascension adds an extensive online multiplayer mode into the mix. While God of War: Ascension might not reinvent the wheel, the new online modes mean thrusting a trident through an opponent hasn’t been this hilarious since Brick Tamland took that faithful news team brawl a little too far.
