Doubtless Toronto has a great indie music scene. Both NXNE and King of the Dot make their home here, and now, a new worldwide music event hits Toronto. The Red Bull Thre3style, will, for a week, host 21 up-and-coming DJs from around the world in Toronto venues, working to crown the one champ.

From November 4-9, each DJ will play a fifteen minute set flanked by industry giants like Skratch Bastid, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Kid Koala. Quebec’s Adam Doubleyou will represent the Great White North.

DJing being such a naturally postmodern, underground, and individual form, it’s odd to see such a huge  competition hosted by a large corporation. Is the the academization of the DJ? I’m sure the artists will have an opinion. Each DJ is compelled to use at least 3 genres in their short set, so at least some variability is guaranteed.

You can check out the acts and set times here. The website’s also hosting a lot of free mixes from the coming competitors, so take a look.

Let the games begin!
