A pair of free throws put Marian University a point ahead, 59-58. There was a second left on the clock when Shane “The Milkman” Merryman got the pass from his team-mate and turned toward the net from well past the half-court line.
Marian players thought they had it in the bag as The Milkman fired away. The clock timed out with the ball still in the air, the crowd in a hush or calling it over when the ball sank right through the peach-bucket. 61-59.
The video started a petition to get Merryman on Sportscentre, and since then Merryman the Milkman’s miracle-move has landed on ESPN, The Today Show, and Good Morning America. 3 points.
