Well, it’s been a long time coming but the boys are finally back. Fifteen years since its last cinematic release, it now looks like everything’s lined up for the Bad Boys threequel. The cult classic series, which first graced the silver screen in 1995, won over audiences thanks to some explosive action and slick humour.

Producers over at Columbia Pictures are surely hoping that this formula will continue to be successful, because the next Bad Boys chapter is primed for a release soon. To make the big announcement, the film’s two stars took to their Instagram accounts and posted visual teasers along with some genuine messages. “It’s been a long time coming. But now it’s here! Bad Boys for life. We back,” proclaimed Will Smith. Costar Martin Lawrence opted for a simple yet effective line, “It’s official. Bad Boys for life”.

According to some sleuthing over at Esquire, the threequel will follow the lead characters’ escapades as gritty, middle-aged men. “The film will see Lawrence’s character Marcus Burnett working as a private eye after a falling out with Smith’s Mike Lowery, who is going through a midlife crisis as a bachelor who finally wants to mature, all while dealing with a new a young and cocky partner who is loyal to Lowery but that loyalty is not reciprocated, and finds bond with Burnett when he returns to the fray.”

The report continues, “Lowery and Burnett are brought together again when a lean, mean, skilled, Albanian mercenary with a vendetta puts a death order on Lowery and Burnett for the death of his brother. Now the two must work together once again to bring him down.”

Bad Boys 3 is slated for release on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2020. You can check out the social media teasers for the flick below.
