Cool Down This Summer With A Cocktail Freezie

Summer is finally here and the heat is only going to get hotter. It is the perfect time of year to spend your afternoons on a patio. It seems like there is nothing better than hanging out with friends with ice cold cocktails. It’s the perfect cure for a summer time heatwave. That is until now. We have one better cure for you, invite your friends over to your backyard or patio and surprise them with a cocktail freezie. No, not a frozen cocktail but an actual cocktail freezies.

We recently tried out some cocktail freezies at Earls Kitchen + Bar during their summer patio opening. First off, they were refreshing and delicious. But we were sad to quickly learn that the cocktail freezies are only available in the US restaurants currently. Consequently, we had to find the recipe for our readers. Cameron Boque, Earls’ Beverage Director , designed four freezies for the restaurant: Cosmopolitan, Melon Ball, Blue Hawaiian and Pina Colada. We managed to snag the recipes for Melon Ball and Blue Hawaiian. Just follow these two simple recipes to ensure for a great summer with your friends. But be warned that they will always want to hang out on your patio just so they can have one of these boozey freezies. Since you are going to be so popular, we suggest you make a lot of them.

Melon Ball

  • 490 ml Melon Liqueur
  • 138ml Skyy Vodka
  • 630ml Orange Juice
  • 304ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 194ml Simple Syrup

Blue Hawaiian

  • 276ml Bacardi White Rum
  • 310ml Blue Curacao
  • 600ml Pineapple Juice
  • 304ml Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 380ml Simple Syrup
  • 588ml Water

For both recipes, simply combine all the ingredients. Pour into your forms. Freeze and enjoy.

Note: Both recipes are designed to make 20 x 4 oz freezies. If you are using the plastic tubing you must allow for about 1/2 an ounce expansion when freezing so don’t over fill.  Either recipe can used in popsicle style forms to freeze. Both recipes are designed with a higher sugar water content than a normal cocktail to allow for the right level of freezing. Each freezie has 1 oz of alcohol.
