5 Must-Sees At The 2016 Green Living Show

Most of us recycle and separate our biodegradable waste into the green bin, and have incorporated other sustainable habits into our lifestyle, from using eco-friendly cleaners or biking to work. Living sustainably no longer is more expensive, says Laurie Simmons, CEO and president of Green Living Enterprises, which also puts on the Green Living Show.  Now in its tenth year, the show, which takes place April 15 to 17, 2016, in Toronto, it’s a fun way for everyone to learn more about living a green lifestyle. Some of the must-sees from this year’s show?

Power up with a new source of protein. Maybe you’ve tried eating bugs halfway across the world. Or even in North America covered in chocolate perhaps. But how about eating bugs as a sustainable protein. There’s an immense source of them, after all. Ground into protein powders, some chefs are using them in fun and practical ways, such as in granola or smoothies. See whether this protein source is pleasing to your palate at the Show.

Go for a green test drive. If you’re considering a green car as your next vehicle, at the Show you can test drive the Canadian Green Car Award finalists. They’ll be there on the show floor. Rather than just seeing one care at a time at a dealership, you’ll have a big electric fleet right there. The top six finalists (in six style and technology categories) are: Nissan LEAF, Chevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Mazda3 GS, Volvo XC90 T6, and Tesla Model S P90D. The winner will be announced at the Show.

Bring sexy back, sustainably. Yes, even your sex life could get an eco-makeover. Think natural lubricants, non-latex condoms, and more. This could possibly be the most enjoyable way of practicing a greener lifestyle…so do your part (wink, wink). Kickstart it with a romantic spa weekend at Ste. Anne’s Spa, where you can dine on tasty, gluten-free fare, while indulging in top-notch spa services that make use of the spa’s in-house natural skincare line (which makes use of essences grown right on the spa’s property).

Satisfy your green tech curiosity. Learn about the latest clean energy options and green building techniques. Also, Toronto’s MaRS Innovation will be displaying technological advances from a slew of inventors and entrepreneurs.

Fill your belly. Foodies will not be left out. Besides edible insects as a source of protein (see above), there will be plenty of chefs pairing foods with local wines and craft beers. Grab a spot at the pub at the Show when you need a break from visiting exhibitors.
