Fragrance Of The Month: John Varvatos XX Indigo EDT

This month? We try out John Varvatos XX Indigo EDT…

Twenty-two years ago, John Varvatos launched his first menswear collection in New York City and never looked back. With awards such as GQ’s 2007 Designer of the Year and the CFDA’s 2001 and 2005 Menswear Designer of the Year under his fashionable belt, he’s as synonymous with rock and roll as he is with epic style. Suits paired with biker boots, cool shades and a spritz of one of his distinctly elegant and always borderline rebellious scents is, after all, the Greek American designer’s trademark.

We wouldn’t have it any other way…it’s just that good.

His latest eau, XX Indigo, born from Varvatos’ affinity for the celebration of music and style, is right on brand. Fresh and modern, the elixir opens with tart lemon, bright peppermint and sweet Baie rose. A warm and spicy mix of geranium, cardamom and Blue Himalyan poppy add a celebratory vibe, before smoothing into an edgy and sensual blend of patchouli, vetiver and frosted musks. The overall effect is sophisticated and refined, rich and luxurious and, perhaps best of all, intriguing and elusive.

Yet unlike the many untameable men who waft the JV lifestyle, this namesake eau is captured…in a bottle.

In alignment with all of the label’s scents, XX Indigo’s heavy glass, flask-shaped bottle holds court, a stand out on its own and alongside other eaus. Sleek in royal blue with a silver-embossed cap, the flacon’s intricately detailed crest hardware creates a covetous vibe of opulence and virility. And boy, does it draw people in, bolster confidence and claim everyone’s attention.

But we expect nothing less. It’s a John Varvatos.

John Varvatos XX Indigo EDT $94 for 75ml and $115 for 100ml, available at the Hudson’s Bay.
