Fragrance Of The Month: Prada Luna Rossa Black EDP

This month? We try out the new Prada Luna Rossa Black EDP

Italian couture house Prada’s latest incarnation in the Luna Rossa fragrance line, Luna Rossa Black, is a dynamic and sensual scent that alludes to adventure. As it should. The name is a spinoff from the brand’s sailing boat the Luna Rossa Challenge (originally named the Prada Challenge), that won the Louis Vuitton Cup in 2000 and with it, the right to compete in the 2000 America Cup. Which it did and lost, 5 – 0 against defending champions, Team New Zealand. But that’s all water under the bridge. What remains consistent, is Prada’s reputation for absolute luxury and exceptional quality.

Luna Rossa Black is no exception.

Like it’s predecessors, the parfum is sporty and masculine, fresh and vibrant. On first spritz it is citrusy tart with an energetic hint of spice, courtesy of bergamot and the angelica flower, while warm notes of patchouli and coumarin creep in adding an extra layer of spicy heat. Unique to this eau is the absence of earthy botanical lavender. In it’s place are seductive woody amber and intimate musk and ambergris notes that give the fragrance it’s suave and sleek feeling. So while the overall vibe of the brand is present, there’s a newness, a deep and dark quality giving it an aura of anticipated excitement. Much like Prada’s latest boat.

Christened the TP52 by Miuccia’s husband and Prada CEO, Patrizio Bertelli, the new Luna Rossa Challenge boat made its debut earlier this year, winning the 52 Super Series Valencia Sailing Week.

Prada Luna Rossa Black come in 50 ml for $106 and 100 ml for $120, available at Sephora and Nordstrom stores across Canada.
