Vans Launches Its First Limited Edition MoMA Collection

Vans and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) have come together for a new special edition footwear and clothing collection. Dropping in two installments, shoppers can pick up the first drop on Vans.ca starting today, September 30, and anticipate the next drop in November.

The first pieces in the fall 2020 Vans x MoMA collection feature iconic works by Spanish artist and Surrealist icon Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), Russian-born painter and early champion of abstract painting Vasily Kandinsky (1866-1944) and French painter Claude Monet (1840-1926) whose work gave a name to the art movement Impressionism.

Each piece of artwork featured in the Vans x MoMA collection was chosen by Vans in collaboration with MoMA.

“MoMA is excited to finally reveal the Vans collaboration as they, too, have a rich legacy of supporting artistic expression,” said Robin Sayetta, Associate Director of Licensing and Partnerships at MoMA. “We pursue a limited number of product collaborations and our goal is always to engage a broader audience with modern art. We are thrilled to reach art lovers around the world through Vans’ global network.”

Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory from 1931 is featured on the medial and lateral panels of Vans’ Old Skool Twist, as the sneaker features a distorted foxing stripe and a gum sole. The distorted foxing stripe can also be found on the Vans long sleeve and pullover apparel styles.

Vasily Kandinsky’s 1923 work, Orange, is featured on a canvas iteration of the Van’s classic Slip-On as well as a short sleeve tee, crewneck and snapback hat.

Rounding out the initial Vans x MoMA series is a Vans Authentic covered in Claude Monet’s Water Lilies works from 1914 to 1926. The famous Water Lilies also appear on a hat, fleece and backpack style.

The first Vans x MoMA drop also includes a 10-piece range of MoMA-branded footwear, apparel, and accessories. Vans’ iconic checkerboard appears on the latest ComfyCush Old Skool and Era silhouettes as well as long and short sleeve tees for adults and kids, as well as a lightweight cinch backpack.

You can shop the initial Vans x MoMA collection now at Vans.ca, Vans retail locations, MoMA Design Store locations, store.moma.org, and select retail locations where Vans are sold including Nordstrom.com. To experience the collection and learn more, visit vans.ca/moma.
