Our Five Favourite Fictional Girlfriends

Our Five Favourite Fictional Girlfriends

These unattainable women of television have teased and tempted our desires for years. From a shotgun-wielding tomboy in a post-apocalyptic town to a shallow rich girl who found her true self after the loss of her best friend, the five following characters have been selected for their ability to remain by their boyfriends’ sides no matter how dire the circumstance—and this is television, so things are pretty damn dire, like, all the time

Who: Summer Roberts

From: The O.C. (2003-2007)

Why: It’s not by chance that the series’ favourite brunette was named after the hottest of seasons. The Orange County cutie started a trend that I, and millions of other men owe our dating lives to: She made it cool to date guys who prefer sarcasm over sports. And, believe it or not, Summer was initially set to appear in only a few episodes, but was considered a hit since it was impossible to keep your eyes off her. (I mean, remember the Wonder Woman costume?) Despite her shallow beginnings, we see Summer’s softer side when, despite the reputation that comes from being a two-time prom queen, she loses her virginity to Seth and eventually becomes a hot-as-hell hippie in college. After some self-realization and countless breakups with Seth (it was a nighttime soap, after all), Summer finds a balance between the material girl of the past and the activist of the present and eventually marries Seth in a tear-drenched wedding in the series’ satisfying finale.
