Woman Crush Wednesday: Sienna Miller

Above: Sienna Miller on the red carpet

Name: Sienna Rose Diana Miller

Birthdate: December 28, 1981

Birthplace: New York, New York

Claim to fame: She shot to fame in 2003 with her highly publicized relationship with Jude Law, who was a big star at the time. She then appeared as his on-screen love a year later in Alfie.

What we can see her in next: She has a small role in the Bennett Miller directed Foxcatcher, which hits theatres on November 13.

Interesting fact: She says she was destined to be an actress, by the way that she was almost born in a theatre. Her mom, who was running the Lee Strasberg drama school at the time, began to go into labour while watching Nutcracker Suite in New York.

Best quote: “The big thing, I’ve discovered the big secret, is that it’s all about how happy you are. It’s the ultimate thing. People forget your flaws, and imperfections if they see you’re happy.” — On the importance of happiness in success.

Why we love her: Sienna Miller was that golden blonde, half British and half American (her mother is British and her father is American), who stormed onto the scene as Jude Law’s girlfriend in the mid-2000’s. Yes it’s true — she became famous for being Jude Law’s girlfriend before she did for her career. But that would follow soon after, in 2004 she appeared alongside Law as his on-screen love in Alfie, which brought her to audience’s attention as more than some famous guy’s arm candy. It’s that and the fact that she may or may not have coined the fashion term “boho chic”. Or the fact she’s also a talented fashion designer and is ridiculously attractive. So there are a lot of reasons to super fan this girl.

Miller was on the rise for a stint during the 2000’s, but never quite seemed to be able to make that leap from indie actor to blockbuster star. It seems her personal life and turbulent relationship decisions have garnered her more attention (her on-and-off relationship with Law, as well as her affair with married actor Balthazar Getty) than her movie roles. Which is a shame because she’s been nominated for two BAFTA’s and one Golden Globe over the course of her career.

But Miller is once again on the rise, she will next appear in Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, which has been received with rave reviews at every festival this year, and then in the Clint Eastwood directed American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper, which comes out at the end of the year.

Everybody likes a comeback, a reincarnation, or whatever you want to call it, and Sienna Miller is in the midst of doing exactly that. It seems this time she will be even bigger than before, with roles in some major movies coming out soon. We sure are glad it’s for her acting chops this time and not because of what guy she goes to bed with.

You can catch Sienna Miller in Foxcatcher, in theatres on November 13.
