Woman Crush Wednesday: Felicity Jones

Above: Felicity Jones on the red carpet

Name: Felicity Jones

Birthdate: October 17, 1983

Birthplace: Bournville, Birmingham, England

Claim to fame: Since 2006 she has appeared in numerous films, but her best and most critically acclaimed performances came in 2011’s romance-drama Like Crazy and 2014’s The Theory of Everything.

Where we can see her next: While you will be able to see Jones at the Academy Awards this coming Sunday February 22, where’s she up the Best Actress Award for her role in The Theory of Everything, she will also be appearing in the drama True Story opposite Jonah Hill and James Franco, which has a limited theatre release on April 10.

Interesting fact: She graduated with honours in English from Wadham College, Oxford in 2006 before embarking on her film career.

Best quote: “It was only after university that I said to myself that I had to take the risk and have a serious go at acting. It’s such a bizarre profession, because you have to be totally tough to deal with all those times when you’re being turned down, and then really soft in order to access your character’s emotions.” — on pursuing acting and acting as a profession.

Why we love her: Felicity Jones is just the latest gorgeous and brilliant talent from across the pond to stir the Hollywood talent pool. Following the likes of a lot of other big British actresses before her, such as, Sienna Miller, Emily Blunt, Carey Mulligan, and Keira Knightley, Jones is the current “girl of the moment”, as she’s up for her first Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Theory of Everything. The film tells the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, where Jones plays Jane Wilde, the arts student Hawking fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960’s.

A lot of people probably have never even heard of Felicity Jones either. That’s because she’s on the rise, but hadn’t quite hit real superstardom until right now. She’s been acting steadily in major Hollywood movies since 2006, starring opposite some of best actors and actresses in the game, but never quite landing starring roles. Then in 2011 (considered to be her breakthrough performance), she captivated us as Anna in Drake Doremus’ film Like Crazy, a romance-drama that required the actors to improvise all of their own dialogue, which earned her critical acclaim and numerous award nominations, including a special Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Now this past year she has transitioned from supporting actress and Indie film star to bona-fide Hollywood A-lister, with her Oscar nomination and other big projects on the go, including the release of True Story in April, where she stars and shines opposites Jonah Hill and James Franco.

Now if you haven’t heard the name Felicity Jones until now, you can sure place bets that regardless of whether or not she walks up to that stage to receive the golden statue for Best Actress on Sunday, we’re sure going to be seeing a lot of her talents and beauty in the years to come.

You can catch the 87th Academy Awards this coming Sunday February 22, beginning at 5:30 PM PST.
