Quick Hitters on Minor Characters
Jamie set up a dinner double date for Dexter and Cassie (with her and Quinn) in Dexter’s apartment. Dexter stuck it out as long as he could before going off to track yates, enlisting Cassie’s help to get out the door. They’re going on a date in the future, and my guess — and this is just me speculating here — is that my girl Hannah McKay comes ‘round once Cassie and Dexter start getting cozy.
An angry, jealous, spiteful, killer ex in the mix? That would spice things up nicely.
Masuka is worried his new daughter is a mooch, so he’s got Deb checking her out. Yes, that was literally the entire gist of that subplot summed up in 16 words.
Elway makes another brief appearance, but outside of running an illegal trap-and-trace for Deb, he continues to be her boss that likes the funky electrolyte drinks and nothing more. Can’t believe Connor MacManus is still just standing around doing nothing five episodes in.
My Two Cents
Like I said off the top – it feels like we’re kind of at a second starting point.
The bad guy we thought was this season’s bad guy is already fish food, while Dexter and Deb have ran through a gamut of emotions to end up good. A new angle with the Hamilton kid is about to get underway, we’re still waiting on Elway to make an impact, Hannah to reappear, and the frantic set-up to what everyone hopes is a tremendous final act to begin.
Considering there are only seven episodes left, I kind of thought I’d be more “Did you see Dexter last night? I can’t wait until next Sunday!” by this point. Instead, I’m kind of just like, “Alright – time for Ray Donovan” instead.
This is feeling like a let down so far. There is time to change that, but they better start soon.
