With the summer blockbuster season finally in full effect, it may seem a little early to anticipate the string of movies slated for later on in the year. Sure there are some awesome action flicks gracing the silver screen this month, but 2017 is bookended with some unmissable releases. One of those aforementioned titles is the sci-fi juggernaut, Blade Runner 2049. If you happen to be living under a rock, the movie is the highly overdue sequel to the 1982 classic directed by Ridley Scott.

Upon its release, Blade Runner was heralded for challenging narratives and stunning visuals. It starred Harrison Ford as detective, Rick Deckard – a character that has become one of the actor’s defining roles. Meanwhile, the film itself has become a seminal neo-noir and is a highly influential reference point for its genre and beyond. Just take a peek at Kanye West’s most recent touring show and see that Blade Runner’s unmistakable aesthetic is still very much alive and well.

Fans of the epic adventure have been waiting decades for a follow-up, which explains why everyone lost their minds when Blade Runner 2049 was formally announced in February 2015. Factor the obvious anticipation with the news that acclaimed auteur Denis Villeneuve will direct, and you can forgive us when we say we’ve geeked out over every set rumour and production leak. Official teases from the film have been limited to a couple of trailers, but thankfully, we’ve been blessed with a special behind-the-scenes look at the project.

Watch the vignette below, which features the film’s two leads, Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Blade Runner 2049 will release in theatres on October 6.
