Actor and musician, Jamie Foxx, is no stranger to musical biopics. After taking home an Oscar for portraying legendary pianist, Ray Charles, the multi-talented star will now produce an upcoming miniseries about the life of Marvin Gaye. The drama is currently untitled, but will feature the musical icon like we’ve never seen him before. Foxx is shopping the pitch to multiple streaming and traditional outlets, and says that the project is close to his heart. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Foxx states “I’ve been a huge fan my whole life. His brilliance in music is unparalleled. Marvin Gaye’s story has always fascinated me”.

The Motown legend is responsible for multiple hits, including “Let’s Get It On”, “Sexual Healing”, and is credited as being one of the best voices in modern music. After tragically passing away in 1984, Hollywood execs have expressed interest in adapting the singer’s career, but attempts have consistently failed before the green light. The crooner’s son, Marvin Gaye III, has jumped onto Foxx’s spin, and is doing so with confidence that his father’s story will be accurately told. “This project will be a powerful and definitive telling of Marvin Gaye’s life story”. Meanwhile, Motown founder, Berry Gordy, also adds onto the excitement. “I am confident that this is the right team to bring his story to the audience in an authentic and compelling way”.

The development of the show will receive another big boost, through its potential licensing agreement with Sony/ATV. The publisher will allow for the usage of Gaye’s extensive catalogue to be featured in the miniseries. There has yet to be any news of production, and the show has yet to flirt with a release date.
