Is Meryl Streep Overrated? Here’s Her List Of Accolades

Meryl Streep was honoured at the 2017 Golden Globes on Sunday night with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, recognizing a lifetime of notable work in the film industry. Instead of using her acceptance speech to recognize her own achievements, Streep opted to use her time to call out U.S. president-elect Donald Trump for his “performances,” particularly an incident when he appeared to mock a disabled reporter during a November 2015 campaign rally — something Trump has denied doing.

“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modelled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” Streep said during the six-minute speech. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

Trump responded to Streep’s comments on Monday morning by taking aim at the actress on Twitter, writing: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked me last night at the Golden Globes.”

While “overrated” is an opinion, Streep has more than a few acting accolades to her name. She has earned nominations and trophies from a gaggle of critics and film festivals in Toronto, St. Louis, San Francisco, Phoenix, Palm Springs, New Jersey, Iowa, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Florida, North Texas, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C..
