CBS Television has announced that Stephen Colbert, currently host of The Colbert Report on The Comedy Network, will be the new host of The Late Show after the departure of current host David Letterman.

The announcement comes less than a week after Letterman’s announcement that he will retire from the long-running talk show in 2015.

“Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead.” The 49-year-old funny man said of the highly anticipated announcement.. “I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”
