As the holiday season approaches, many of us have travel plans to head ‘home’ for the holidays to see our parents. Or we are headed south to escape the winter and our parents. Either way, do you ever worry what is going on at your house when you are not there? Do you even have security at your home? In our high tech world, there are more options than ever to ensure that you never leave your home alone. You can of course go the old school way and have a professional security system installed and pay monthly maintenance fees. Or you could go the latest route – easy to install security cameras that need no wiring and you can monitor yourself. That means you only need to shell out a fee for the unit and not continue to pay monthly fees.

You may have seen this more DIY security option from Nest but now there is a new player in the game called Homeboy. We tested the system out and found it easy to install and easy to install. There are no wires or hardware required for installation – the video ‘ball’ mounts magnetically so it can be placed anywhere. There are no batteries or plugs, and only requires recharging every 3 months. The system runs off your Wi-Fi and can be activate as quickly as you can order an Uber. We simply plugged in the camera to charge, downloaded the app to our phone and synced the camera to the phone. Voila, within minutes we were able to stream audio and video right to your phone, even in low light.

Once set up, you can arm and disarm your system with a quick swipe on your phone. You will begin to receive notifications when motion is detected in your abode and be able to see video of said occurrence right on your phone. And you can even add your partner or roommate’s phone into the system so they too can receive notifications and watch over the home.

Cost is $189.99 with no monthly fees.
