After twenty years of trend-setting service, the legendary Colette boutique will shutter its doors later this year. The popular Parisian retail destination made the sad announcement earlier today, utilizing their official Instagram account to break the news. It’s an unexpected move from the brand, which has attracted numerous high-profile collaborations over the years.

The legendary clothing store has made a name for itself by offering a wide of variety high fashion goods, as well as teaming up with fashion powers like Raf Simons, Balenciaga, H&M and more. According to store manager and creative head, Sarah Andelman, the decision to close follows the brand’s founder and namesake retiring at the end of the year. “Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and Colette cannot exist without Colette,” a statement published Wednesday reads.

Since 1997, Colette has catered to fashion lovers around the world. Thankfully, the Paris boutique will remain open throughout the year, and there have already been talks of a company swooping in to take over the iconic space. As of now, it looks like Saint. Laurent is the front-runner for the location on 213 Rue Saint Honoré. That particular rumour was floated around via online publication, Jezebel, but it has yet to be confirmed by company spokespeople.

Another happy note is that Colette isn’t planning to slow down its operation in these final months. “Until our last day, nothing will change,” Andelman says in the aforementioned Instagram post. “Colette will continue to renew itself each week with exclusive collaborations and offerings, also available on our website.”

You can check out the social media post below, and you can still visit Colette in Paris until its pending close this December 20.
