8. Cadillac Sixteen
In an effort to bring back some memories of the legendary 1930’s Caddie V16, Cadillac revealed the “Sixteen” a fully-functional concept re-made for drivers in 2003. Any guess what it had under the hood? A 1000-horsepower 13.6-litre V16 engine. Shockingly, the colossal engine was capable of achieving 20 mpg, thanks to its “displacement on demand” technology that shuts down 12 cylinders during slow cruising speed and activates all 16 under heavy acceleration. So, it was smart, economical, elegant and beautiful. Although it was never meant to be a production car, the Sixteen’s design and development was used to spawn an exciting new era of future Cadillac models.
