Fragrance Of The Month: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Gentle Fluidity Silver Edition EDT

This month? We try out Maison Francis Kurkdjian Gentle Fluidity Silver Edition EDT

If you didn’t know better and had never seen a photograph of Francis Kurkdjian, there’s a chance you may think he’s an older, wise gentleman potentially getting ready to put the perfume bottle down. It would be fair after all, the Armenian French man’s professional accomplishments read like he’s been mix-mastering scent for a lifetime, because he has, but only because his fragrant beginnings began at the age of 15.

After studying at the Sup de Luxe in Paris and the ISIPCA international school of perfumery in Versailles, he created Jean Paul Gautier’s first men’s fragrance in 1993 Le Mâle, a worldwide top seller. Then in 1999, Kurkdjian forever changed how women wear fresh greens scents with the launch of Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea. His latest eau, crafted under his eponymous Maison, Gentle Fluidity Silver Edition EDT is sure to be the next greatest spritz.

Fresh, aromatic and with a tinge of spice, the scent opens with tart juniper berries balanced with spicy coriander and dry, ground nutmeg. The notes ease into a warm, woody and balmy blend of amber, musk, wood and vanilla with an overall effect that is soft yet powerful, clean yet fiery and all with undertones of glowing embers.

Both simultaneously luxe and accessible, the winner of the 2001 Prix François Coty lifetime achievement award clearly knows what it takes to make a man (and woman, as the eau is gender neutral) express himself through scent. So much so, that his bespoke Parisian-based workshop has created a mirror eau, Gentle Fluidity Gold Edition complete with all of the same rich notes as Silver simply composed in a different way to waft a truly unique and spiced gourmand blend.

Francis Kurkdjian Gentle Fluidity Silver Edition EDT is $225 for 70 ml, available online at www.nordstrom.com and at www.franciskurkdjian.com.
